The Spring Reading Thing 2007

Mermaid

Reading is one of my favorite things to do. I love to read magazines (Elle, Oprah, O @ Home, Paste, Dwell, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker), the newspaper online of course... I'm in Okinawa remember (The Washington Post, The New York Times, NPR.com, BBC News.com, MediaBistro.com), blogs and of course BOOKS.
I came across a blogger who has proposed a reading challenge for spring. http://callapidderdays.blogspot.com/2007/03/spring-reading-challenge-are-you-in.html
It's called "The Spring Reading Thing 2007" and it sounds like a lot of fun. It's all independent and on your own terms with no race to read the most books or anything like that. It's just a challenge to set a goal for yourself, making a reading list that you think you might complete during Spring (March 21st to June 21st).
So I will take on the challange and my reading list consists of the following titles. Two are the next two titles to be read in my reading group "Lit & The Island" (remember I live in Okinawa, Japan and it's an island) and the other four are ones I have been meaning to read or that I feel I must read.

1. Waiting For Daisy - by Peggy Orenstein (Started March 23rd)

2. The Bell Jar - by Sylvia Plath (Reading Group)

3. The Emperor's Children - by Claire Messud (Reading Group)

4. Forever Lily - by Beth Nonte Russell

5. Going Overboard The Misadventures of a Military Wife - by Sarah Smiley

6. Cold Mountain - by Charles Frazier

7. Water For Elephants: A Novel - by Sara Gruen

Let me know if any of these titles are on you reading list for this year or what you think of ones you may have read.
Wish me luck with this list. It's not daunting but it is a commitment to say publicly that I am going to try to read these six titles by June 21st.

Just stopping by to check out your list and thank you for joining the Spring Reading Thing! I have to admit that I haven't read any of the books on your list, but I hope you enjoy them!

I haven't been in a book club for a while, but it was always nice to read some things that I might not otherwise pick up.

Thanks for visiting my book blog. I actually read Forever Lily recently and wrote about it on my adoption blog (my husband and I are in the process of adopting a little girl from China). I really didn't care for the book, but if you want to you can read the review here - http://forksandchopsticks.wordpress.com/2007/03/14/forever-lily/
